Three Pretty Girls

Bob and Megan you must know
That raising pretty girls
Requires more from Mom and Dad
Than pony tails and curls

The span is brief to set them on
The path of righteousness
No time along the way to waste
With foolish idleness.

Now plant within these tender hearts
A pure and holy seed,
So Faith in God will be their strength
And help in time of need.

Then as it sprouts you nourish it
In every waking hour
To grow a Lily pure and white
A precious holy flower.

Remind these dear and cherished ones
In every time and place
Whatever trials come their way
He grants sufficient Grace.

Christmas 2014

Christmas 2014

How long the days before the Christ
When lamb and bullock slain
And man would fear to speak or write
Their Father’s holy name

No sacrifice could slake the guilt
Of man in all his pride
No way to gain forgiveness
Or stem the evil tide.

All hope was in a promise
At the fall the Father said:
The offspring of the woman
Would crush the serpent’s head.

Then shoot was sprung from Jesse’s stump
A scion thrust from roots
And He the Spirit of our God
Would guide in all pursuits.

Wonder Counsellor, Mighty God,
Eternal Prince of Peace.
He came to lead us from our sin
To life that ere will cease.

That holy night the Son of God
With no place for a bed,
In a lowly feeding trough
Would rest his tiny head.

Prepare the way.  Make straight His path.
He comes to set you free.
Through all distractions of this time

Be sure the Lord, you see.

Christmas 2013

Christmas 2013

Many times I've said to you
I have one gift to give.
A gift of faith to be your guide,
And teach you how to live.

Again this year I come to you
And bid you look around.
Beyond the glitter and the lights
Far from the party sounds.

Be sure to come before The Lord
And make some quiet time.
To sit with Him a little while
Enjoying love sublime.

For in this time of merriment
We tend to all lose sight
Of how He came to rescue us
That blessed Christmas night.

He came in pure humility
A babe in stable born.
Not in an air of majesty
But laid with wheat and corn.

How apt his bed a feeding trough
The bread of life on earth
That silent night the star shone bright
For God had come to earth.

He wishes now to come to you
Forgiving any sin
If you just make a place inside
And bid him please come in.

My gift to you is faith in Him
The maker of us all.
My prayer is that you pass it on
And none of mine would fall.

Krissy

On December 7,2013 Krissy Haun died of an overdose of heroine.  She had lost control of her will and family and friends were unable to save her from this terrible addiction.  I pray that these words may offer some hope and consolation to those close to Krissy, and remind us to pray often for the poor souls in Purgatory.

 Krissy

Now scarce can we endure the pain
Of losing one so dear.
Who found herself entangled in
A web of lies and fear.

She couldn’t see the depth of love
Poured out upon the tree
The overwhelming, precious  love,
Of Christ for you and me.

The circumstances of her death
May tempt us to despair.
But of the Maccabean trust
We must be made aware.

Our God of faithfulness and Hope
Sees far beyond our eyes
With justice and with mercy for
The foolish and the wise.

So offer now with firm intent
Your sacrifice and prayer,
That she may come to ever know
God’s love and constant care.

Judas Maccabaeus led the faithful Jews in revolt against the oppressive king, Antiochus Epiphanes.  His army was small, but incredibly successful against the Greek forces.  During one battle, several of the Jewish soldiers were killed, and they were later found to be wearing forbidden amulets of a pagan idol.  In spite of their grave sin, Judas had sin offerings made and offered prayers that they might be released from their sin.  His example encourages us to pray for the dead, and gives us Hope for the resurrection.  2 Maccabees 12:38-45

Eternal rest grant unto to her oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.  May she rest in peace.  Amen.

Here amid these monuments
Of bronze and polished stone,
The land where freedom lovers fought
And Liberty's light shone.

When tyranny and evil sought
To trample on the weak,
Courageous holy men of God
We're not afraid to speak.

They raised their voices loud because
They heard a higher call.
The Truth that cries emphatically
There's dignity for all!

Today we call this land of ours
The home of free and brave,
And yet our generation fails
The weakest ones to save

Five men upon the highest court
Have cursed our holy land,
Unleashing here the evil of
Abortion on demand.

This nation's strength was founded not
On doing as we please.
But following the will of God
And helping those in need.

If this land shall long endure
And freedom truly live,
Then hearts of selfishness must change,
And we must learn to give.

Our women must be honored
And treasured as a prize,
Not simply seen as fodder for
The men with lustful eyes.

No longer men with weakened knees
Or those without a spine.
But men of mission willing to
With courage toe the line.

A mom and dad for every child
No longer families torn,
A sacrificial learning place
Where Christ is daily born.

When love is rightly understood
And men have seen the light
For sure this land will long endure
When all are granted life.
